Thanks Mike. Even before I dumped my cartridges, I had a big box of Darby Extra's that I had been using with a bread lame (dough slasher). So when I took up the DE again, I started with those to reaquaint myself. But I got a case of Japanese Feather blades. They are reputed to be ninja sharp. (One company that sells razors has blade samplers you can buy with packs of 5-10 from various manufacturers. They advise new users to try them in any order, except save the Feathers for last.)

If I find my SR soon, though, I may use the DE less and less.

We have a thread for bread bakers too. Looks like you’ll fit right in.

Ha! I'll have to look at the bread baker's thread. It's interesting, most lames use a DE razor blade (and you can make one from a simple stick if you don't want to buy one). But the blade is curved along the long axis, exactly perpendicular to the way a DE razor curves the blade. The lame, or your stick, just goes through the slot in the middle of the blade and relies on friction to bend it like a bow.

Muting a point is very easy to do. And i bet f you contacted one of the sellers here that have a low cost razor he would be happy to blunt it for ya. But in my opinion thats cheating. Take the chance. When it bites ya you with then know not to do that move again. Its all part of the fun. Most all my razors have a sharp tip.

Hi Cliff. I hope you stick with it this time. However you get a clean close and comfortable shave does not matter, just that you get one. We also support DE shavers. I am not one but think most find it better than cartridges. A good brush and a nice soap makes all the difference in the world. Straight shaving is not rocket science but it does take some practice.

    Welcome aboard, Cliff.
Not much I can say, the guys have ya pretty well covered.

But...take your time, have fun, and be aware of the numerous rabbit holes. Though, some are real fun to go down.

    Welcome aboard SRP, Cliff!

Congratulations on the news of your separation from the Gillette hive mind and returning to old-school wet shaving.

Besides your conscience, I believe you may find that your face also appreciates the move.

Am thinking how you are fortunate to be in Massachusetts.
Some great American blades from there can still be sometimes found in good nick.

I would concentrate on Torrey's and Worcester's. Lots of others made and dealt from Mass.
    Good stuff!
