An introduction on my journey into SRs.
I have been shaving with DE razors for a couple years. I recently was bitten by the SR bug. I don't know exactly why. Part of it is the challenge, part is the history, and part is that I love using old tools. I have an open comb Gillette from the early 1900 and a hand saw from the late 1800s. My best hand plane is an early 1900s Stanley. I also find that I am enjoying learning to hone, although I have a long way to go before I even get the basics down. It doesn't seem difficult, just taking some time to learn. Life is busy with work, graduate studies (50 year olds shouldn't have to do these, but here I am anyway), and family. Most hobbies are on hold until after I finish coursework. Straight razor shaving gives me an opportunity to slow down and relax a bit, even with a sharp blade sliding down my neck - grin.
In my search for a second SR, I was pointed to SRP to learn more about choosing a razor. I quickly discovered that there is a lot of great information here. A few years ago I would never have thought there would be forums on shaving, of all things. Yet I find myself enjoying the posts, gaining from other folks insights, and being able to contribute from time to time. Thank you all in advance for providing helpful information that I can benefit from.
