Rudimentary but should work. Used some of that fusing/hem/bond tape stuff and a little paracord.

Looking good.
I would suggest to replace the para cord or whatever with perhaps a piece of wooden dowel or such to give a bit more support to help keep it flatter across the material.
You do have the proper way to hold the other end/that will help prevent cupping and thus keep the material flatter.
I did send you more material than you needed so you can still play a bit.Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

I personnaly made a paddle with a newspaper wrapped around a wooden slat, attached with thumbtacks.
