Thanked: 1First razor on the way
Hello all. I've been toying with the idea of learning this skill for a few years. Even joined the forum a few years ago and lurked. Finally took action. First razor bought from Buy/Sell/Trade here. Incredibly nice seller offered to be my mentor and answer any questions I may have. Bought my strop from a vendor here on the forum. Can't wait to get started. Thanks to all of those who share their knowledge on these pages.

Thanked: 1Thank you to all. To answer Gasman, I bought the Sanssouci razor Obie listed in the Buy/Sell/Trade and a 2 1/2" Plain Vanilla Steerhide Strop from Heirloom Strops/Well Shaved Gentlemen. Couldn't find any brushes on the forum, so bought a Badger hair brush, stand and sandlewood shaving soap from Grooming Lounge. Please feel free to recommend any place I should consider for my next purchase. I'll try to make my own shaving soap after this bar runs out as I've been making cold press soap as another hobby the last few years.
Thank you for all the offers of help, I'm sure I'll be taking you all up on that after my first shave.

The razor and strop are a good choice. A badger brush is a good starting point but i don't know about the seller. And good luck on making shave soap. You might want to give Obie's list of soaps a good read. A lot of us choose from his list. He has been at this for a long time so i know your in good hands. Just go slow and enjoy the shaves.

Well it shows great patience and diligence that you've been so methodical about getting started. I had to dive right in as a teenager and found out the hard way that is not as easy as it sounds. Picked it up again as an adult and again got started before I really knew very much. I'm sure you'll be fine and you're in good hands here.
If you go about making shaving soap the same way you went about getting started in straight shaving then I'd certainly be interested in trying some of it.Iron by iron is sharpened, And a man sharpens the face of his friend. PR 27:17

Thanked: 1Again, thanks to all. I really appreciate the recommendations, I try to support those that support the forums I enjoy. PaulFLUS, if I get a recipe figured out that works, I'd be happy to send you a few bars. I'll let you know if that time arrives.
