There is a bottom, well for me there is but then I found another rabbit hole. I have sold off all but 8 straight razors and 4 vintage DE/SE razors and then I have my various badger, boar and horse hair brushes and I still have a collection of hones and have not purchased any soaps, creams or splashes in almost 3 years as I have a closet full of that stuff but now my rabbit hole is watches and that can be pretty expensive compared to any other current interests I have.

Ran through the lapping films from the equivalent of 8000 grit down to 14,000 then stropped on a flattened diamond pasted balsa strop (set the bevel in the semi this week). My cheap China blade is tree topping hair on the back of my hand. Let’s see how the shaving goes today. Also trying out a new to me shave cream from Viking. Completely unscented, so no chance of triggering any allergies.

Well, I’m still using a bargain basement setup I know. The “sandpaper” took the blade from so dull it wouldn’t cut butter to tree topping hair, so I think it’s working. I’ve promised myself that when I learn to hone and shave properly, I’m going to upgrade both honing setup and razor. I made an offer this morning on a vintage German razor that doesn’t look too bad...fingers crossed.

I will keep you in mind and cross my fingers you make it over the hump and back into the straight razor shaving. Remember that when you get good at it you can have 3 decent razors ond only need honing once a year and shave most every day. At that point you might as well pay someone for honing.
Just an option to think about bro. It's just Sharpening, right?

Well, it went fine this morning. Not BBS, but definitely socially acceptable. Zero nicks.

Aloha!
A belated welcome. I really like your state. From top to bottom. I used to belong to a private club in Indianapolis, since I was in your state quite a bit for business and needed a place to meet clients and dine/entertain. I had thought about purchasing a home in northern Indiana for summer living, but I think it best to stay on the West coast so Washington State would be better. But I really do like Indiana. It's a great state.
Hope you enjoy the forum.
