Thanked: 0Hello from PA
Jkrezdorn
I have been using a DE for the past few years unless we go on Vacation. Normally don't check luggage so I don't want to lose my razor to tsa. I also don't have a job I have to shave every day. Sometimes go for a week or more.
Over the weekend I got an email from Naked armour SB's and decided to jump in. I did some research and called to see the country of origin for them. I spoke with a call center and she did not know. No problem I will search online. No luck.
Since my Grandfather came to the USA from Germany I decided to search German manufacturers and decided on a Dovo Bismarck. I am having it honed before shipping.
I just turned 57 and have been shaving since 15. Started with Dad's DE. Somewhere along the line I switched to cartridges.
I have had full beards and Van Dykes on and off sometimes for years at a time.. so I just trimmed things up.
I'm a bit nervous about the SR. But I think I can catch on rather quickly.

Welcome aboard.!
Be sure to read the beginners thread, found on the front page. Lots to learn thru trial n error, were here to lessen the learning curve.
Practice stropping, with a butter knife and old belt.
This is a most serious aspect to straight razor, maintenance. If you do it wrong, you'll destroy the fine shaving edge on your razor, as well as a expensive strop.Mike

Welcome and enjoy the learning process. It takes time so don't get discouraged when you don't get a great shave right off. It's said it takes 100 shaves before you really understand and start getting good shaves often.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Welcome. It seems pretty straight forward but there's more to it than it seems like. Just go slow and don't get discouraged. It takes time. Make sure to read the beginner's section. Get a good strop and spend some time learning that skill.

Thanked: 4826Welcome to the forum. Starting with a shave ready razor seems like the shortest learning curve. That is also how I started and what I started with. Skin stretching and holding is super important as is stropping and blade angle.

Hi and welcome. Go slow and dont feel you need to do full shaves to start with. Just get the easy bits and work up to it. You will pick it up quick enough. Go light and let the blade do the work. Often said to just wipe the lather off. Good luck
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Thanked: 556Welcome to SRP.
When you are ready to increase the number of straight razors - you should have at least 2 so you can rotate through them - check out the buy/sell/trade forum. You’ll get a good, shave ready razor at a decent price from one of our experienced members.
Enjoy the journey, but watch out for the rabbit holes.David
