Thanked: 0Hello from Los Angeles
Hello Gents,
Thank you for allowing me to join the site. I’m looking forward to learning and contributing over the coming years.
Where I’m at in my shaving journey:
Currently a beginner straight razor shaver (about a week now). I’m thoroughly enjoying it and using the straight to do a WTG pass and a small touch up on my chin and cheeks.
Current hardware:
Henckel straight razor (I’d guess maybe from 1880 period), restored for me by a generous experienced gentleman.
West coast shaving strop - leather and canvas
Parker silvertip badger brush
Proraso shaving cream and prep (white) - got some DR Harris hard soap on its way to me shortly.
Bannister and Mann aftershave splash
Previously shaved with DE razor open comb initially with Feather blades before switching to Derby
During my time in the military I used an electric shaver and before that a Mach 3
Personal life:
Originally from the U.K. now living in Los Angeles. Work in healthcare. Enjoy drinking beer and playing football. Not necessarily together.
Thanks all,
AndrewSemper in doctrina

Thanked: 0Thank you Gentlemen. Looking forward to being here.
I will definitely be looking into honing in the future but right now I’m just going to sit back and try and master the blade.Semper in doctrina

Waiting on learning to hone?
Congratulations!
Your one of the very few that will learn in the right way. Learn to lather, strop and shave first. Owning 2 razors is best so you can learn with ONE, while sending the SECOND out for honing. Than when the first ONE needs honed you start using the SECOND razor as it now has a fresh edge and send the ONE out for honing.
This makes you learn one razor at a time as they all are different. Ok, maybe not all, but you get the point. When learning to S.R. shave stick with one razor and soap. This will help eliminate any issues. When your having irritation but not the day before and your using the same equipment its most likely you and not the equipment.
Ask questions and read the beginners section in our library and you will be enjoying your shave soon.
And remember that it is said that it takes 100 S.R. shaves before you start to really understand so DONT GIVE UP!It's just Sharpening, right?
