Thanked: 0Hello
Hi
Thank you for letting me join. I was lead here to see if I could get information on a straight razor I have. It's the first one I've come across going through my childhood home.
I'm from a little town in upstate New York and find it so fascinating how many people are interested in things from the past. I love it!
If someone could help me on where to post photos of the straight razor and maybe get some answers I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you
Joann

All I know is
It's a Hunter (says it on it)
It's carved (you can feel it )
It's very sharp (ask my finger )
If anyone can help with a better description then the above ^ and what I could sell it for I would really appreciate it. And here I thought cleaning out my childhood home would be a walk in the park It's so confusing lol

A box will pop up asking where to choose from and from there it should be a matter of following the prompts. Wow! That's a beautiful razor. Scalloped spine, etched face AND gold wash, patterned and painted scales and in not pristine but.very good condition. We see lots of requests like this and often it is mundane and sometimes disappointing junk. Yours however is quite nice. Unfortunately we don't do valuations here for various reasons. Mainly some of the members are dealers. I suspect you might.get.a private message from someone though.
Here is a thread with some information. There are others but this will get you started.

Thanked: 13245If you are looking to sell it let me give you a hint
There are two types of collectors out there
Shavers that are after the quality steel (Us here at SRP)
Celluloid Collectors that are after those Figural Scales (eBay)
That razor is worth way more to those on eBay than to us Shavers
Over the years I have, done quite a few razor switches for the Celluloid collectors, they are only interested in the scales and depending on the rarity they are worth some bit of money. Sorry I have no idea what is VERY rare and what isn't"No amount of money spent on a Stone can ever replace the value of the time it takes learning to use it properly"

Nice answer Glen!
As its been said we dont put value on a razor. The best thing to do is to try and find a previous sold razor on ebay in as close of condition as your and with the same name. That will give you an idea. But the market changes from week to week and the fact that a lot of us have collections that are greater than 200 razors. We would feel a razor is worth much less.
If Im reading the name right you could be female. We do have a few in the forum but they dont post much. We would be happy to help you to learn to use a straight razor. This is what we do. Help people to learn this old way of shaving.
Stick around and ask questions if you are enterested. Or not. But more than anything else, you have a fine looking razor and welcome to srp. It's just Sharpening, right?
