Thanked: 2Hi
Hello everyone my name is Trent. I just got into sr shaving and trying to learn how to hone. Tried going the cheap route and bought a few no name brands and tried honing them. I am still trying to figure it out. Got tired of getting junk and bought a dovo and I like it alot. I have alot of questions so I will be hitting different forums with questions already have a few out there.

Welcome. Which Dovo did u get...Best Quality.? Entry level/cheapest.
Dovo's qualities are hit and miss, lately. I have one myself and have had to make corrections to it, to be able to hone it properly.
Not that their bad steel, just poorly ground most times. And I've honed plenty of them.
There are some good, modern made razors out there, but nothing compared to vintage razors from days gone by. I highly recommend a vintage razor or two to add to your rotation. Your best off having a few, so u always have one shave ready, when the other needs honing.
Have u a strop, and brush. Good quality shave soap.? Very important also.
Shave on.!Mike

Thanked: 634Welcome. If you just started with a straight I suggest learn how to shave first. Honing a razor comes later and takes time to learn. If you only have a few razors send them out for professional honing. Then you only need a 12,000 grit or higher finishing stone to refresh the edge. Make sure you are stroping correctly so you can maintain the edge. incorrect striking can ruin an edge.

Welcome Trent. Sounds like you're off to a good start. Yes Dovo can have grind problems but not all of them. I have a Best Quality (actually it's a Col. Conk which is a contract Dovo) and it is great. Even if it is a dud it's a bump in the road. The great thing about this hobby is that there will always be more opportunities and the whiskers just keep on growing...and we've found a way to make it cool and interesting. AIN'T IT GREAT!!!.
There's lots of great guys here to help you on your way. Just be patient and keep on shaving with an open mind and you'll do fine.Last edited by PaulFLUS; 04-21-2024 at 06:17 PM.
