Introduce yourself!!!!!

I'm Justin. 26 Year old male Living in Central MO. I'm fairily new to straight razor shaving. I've been using 4 bladed razors forever so by no means am I new to shaving with blades. My barber in my home town always shaved my kneck and hair line with a straight and ever since the first time I have wanted to have my own, but never really throught to much about it. So here I am. About 3 weeks ago I bought a Magic Razor with the replaceable blades (Half of a double edge *note* Not the double edge you get when honing with black tape on the spine; for anyone who is really new.)

So I've been shaving with this Magic for 3 weeks now and have only nicked myself 2 times, and both times they were really small nicks. Regardless I'm still new, and have been watching all types of Videos. A few days ago I received my Dovo Astrale. I have honed and stoped it, but I think it could be a little sharper. I'll probably be asking quite a few questions. I have a really hard time shaving my kned in a few spots without going over the spots 4 or 5 times. Getting bad razor burn in those areas.

Hello! I am Hannes, from Estonia. I'm 17 years old. Straight razors aren't really used here in Estonia - people have them, but nobody really uses them. I got really interested in using a straight razor to shave - sure, it won't happen too often yet, but using that weird contraption with 4 blades doesn't really look as appealing as using that good ol' fashioned blade as you all might agree. I just received my first straight razor - it was my greatgrandfather's and it's a Solingen, though I don't know which mark as it's quite old (probably from the 1900s or so). I will probably need to learn how to sharpen my razor myself as I don't believe anyone really has the skill around here. I do need to get a strop and a stone and figure out a substitute for the lubricants listed all over the net, since they sell none of these here.

I am looking forwards many years of straight razor shaving with patience.

I am so new that I haven't even started yet. I hope that all of that will change tomorrow: asked for a straight razor and supplies for Christmas. Anyway, my name is Scott. I live near Kansas City. I have been reading about straight razor shaving for months now and am fascinated by it for the very reasons that Lynn mentions in his DVD: the tie to the vintage and the fact that it leads us to slow life down and relax for a time.

I can't wait to get started. Thank you to all here as the SRP has already been a great source of info. and the guys I've communicated wityh have been super. Merry Christmas!!

I remember him providing his StraightRazorPlace alias in one of his videos, but I cannot remember for the life of me. Its better to have someone hone for you at first, but if your like me no one is close by, and you want to know for yourself.

Hello to All,
I am finally going to take action and start learning the art of using a straight razor. After reading Christopher Moss' guide, I have begun to make preparations by obtaining a nice shaving cream and a brush with badger bristles. I am now looking for a reasonably priced straight razor that would be good for a beginner. However, I do own a beautiful Wald-Solingen with gold etching (profile of an Indian with headdress- 12 ERN marking), tortoise handle, and cordovan leather case that I inherited after my dad passed away (to my knowledge, I don't think he used it and I never got the story about it). A Martin Rubin strop fell in my possession years ago and aside from looking old and used, it seems to be ok for use. Should I use the W-S or try it after I develop the art of shaving and sharpening on a good blade for beginners? Is ZeePK worth looking into? Their carbon steel blade is under $35.

I'm brand new to this whole shaving my delicate parts with a sharp knife. I've been lurking on this site for a few weeks gleaming some knowlege and brushing up on my first aid. I've made my first ebay purchase (a rusty Geneva Cutlery Pyramid), had my tetanus booster, soaped up my brush and I'm ready to go.

I've been lurking around here for some time without joining, but since I'm going to try my luck at the restore contest, I figured it was time. ;)
I reside far from most of you, in Sweden, and I've only been using a SR for a few months. Well actually, I use a shavette (cheaper practice tool).

Btw, since shavette's use an actuall razorblade, are they as sharp as the sharpest SR?

As stated, I'm going to try to finish my first SR (reworked scales) before january ends, and I think my blade will be a C.V Heljestrand. Unfortunately, I've already thrown away the old scales, so I have no proper before picture.
I'd like to start a project thread in The Workshop, but on the other hand I'd like to keep the element of surprise on my side, since it is a competition. :p

Choices, choices, choices...... We'll see. Anyways, I hope to have a long lasting relationship with this wonderful site, and all you guys!

I am in Kansas City. I started collecting straight razors back in 1982. I just recently stumbled upon this site and learned more about my razors here than I have in the past 17 years. I also have yet to shave with any of my razors. Guess I am a collector only.
