Default New member saying hello and sharing a little find.

    Hello All.

I am a new member who just wanted to say hi. After a lot of research and reading, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered my first staight razor from Lynn and Don at Straigh Razor Designs (shameless plug). I was impressed at the level of help and patience from Don on a Saturday.

I ended up getting a Dovo Black Bismarck 6/8 and a few other things after vacillating between the Dovo Special, Pearlex and Blue Steel. After making the order we went to my Mother in Law's. I was speaking to my Father in Law to find out that he had been a Barber fo years... and had a couple of Straights stored away. So we went digging through storage and came across his old barber kit. He proceeds to pull out an old DOVO Shavette (booo ). He then proceeds to find two nearly identical razors from approx. 40 -50 years ago.

The first is a DOVO 5/8 that appears remarkably similar to the "SPECIAL". Faux tortoise shell scales with SOLINGEN in MOP and silver. Full Hollow Ground, Solingen on the blade in gold. Engraved on the shank is 90 DOVO Solingen and 90. Engraved on the flip side is Fritz Bracht Solingen-Germany. In pretty good condition with a few stains.

The second is a DOVO JATCO similar faux tortoise shell scales with Jatco on the scales. Blade has SOLINGEN JATCO FINEST QUALITY. Shank is engraved with 60 JATCO SOLINGEN and FINEST SHEFFIELD STEEL, FORGED AND REAL HOLLOW, GROUND IN GERMANY. Again in very good condition (to my amateur eye).

I am hoping to trade him a couple of packs of Sensor Excels for them and getting them refurbished as my noob blades so i do not destroy the nes BISMARCK.

Welcome to SRP! SRD is a great place to get your gear and a sharp razor. Don and Lynn are great people to meet if you ever get the chance.

Be sure to read through the beginners guide in the WIKI located on the menu bar above and ask questions as you go.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the kind welcome guys. A quick question... should I invest in a 3000/8000 combo hone? I picked up the Bismarck with Lynn and Don's 3" strop.
