Robh's Intro
Hello,
My name is Rob and I am of course new to this forum, I just bought my first razor from a guy I work with for $20 ( no nics, or rust) it is a David & Rizk Co. razor. My local Wal-mart has shaving set with a boar bristle brush, and I am looking on Amazon for a Strop (Amazon.com: Fromm Razor Strop 2 1/2" X 23": Health & Personal Care
I have found all kinds of Info on this site and would be glad for any advice. So in short... Glad to be here!

Really any kind of advice is welcome, havent found anyone around my area of Indiana that has shaved with one before, the guy I bought if off of hasnt shaved with one in around 30 or so years and remembers very little. Haven't found a barber shop that does it anymore either. As for it being honed I have no idea, its sharp enough to get some hair off the arm but not very well.

Welcome to SRP Robh. Nice razor. It would be best if you sent the razor to someone that advertised in the classified section of this site to be sure the razor is sharp enough to shave with. Also read through the WIKI to get some background and maybe even consider buying Lynn's DVD, also listed in the classified section.

I was also wondering if anyone could give me any info about the razor I have pictured above, I have searched all over the web and can't find anything about the company at all.
As you can see it has an Eagle spreading its wings on the blade with the name " David and Rizk Co." as well as "David & Rizk Germany" engraved a little further to the right. On the back it has "033" stamped on the back about where "David & Rizk Germany" is. Any info would be nice.

Advice....
Get the blade honed by a pro. There are half a dozen here.
It is hard to get a razor sharp enough without an investment
in tools and time. I cannot tell from the photographs if it
needs more than a honing or if it has problems beyond needing
to be sharpened.
You will need a strop.
Work on your wet shaving with any razor that puts a single edge
on your face. The cheapest looking BiC, or a classic double edge.
Wet shaving is a multi step thing... not hard just takes getting
used to.
Find a very cheap puck of soap and practice making lather
and at the same time this will break in your brush. Not shaving just
lathering a lot more than shaving.
The last two above should be done while getting your blade
checked out and sharpened.
Scan the wiki for beginner advice and tricks.

Welcome to SRP Rob. Check out the SRP Wiki beginner's guide here while you are waiting to get that razor back from the pro honing. Lynn Abrams, the founder of SRP, has a tutorial in the Wiki on your first shaves that is well worth the read to start off on the right foot. Read my sig below to avoid nicks. Also read a bit on the site before you go for the strop from Amazon.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
