Straight razor noob
Hello,
I am Danny from the Netherlands, 46 years old and i never shaved wet.
Last year i started to collect Syderco knifes. They are very nice but i don't have much use for them. In the Spyderco forum i came across users using the knives for shaving , and some using a straight razor. Why not give the straight razor a try. After searching the web i came across srp. Now i think i have a new hobby. My 2 "new" razors are in the mail:
Vintage ,,Puma ,,Straight Razor 4/8 in orginal celluloid box Puma edged and wooden print. No.89.
Hollow grounded carbonsteel 4/8 razor.Straid razor is in good shaving condition ,and hand honed by the Barber himself.
A Fine classic razor from the 40ties.made by Puma zwilling -solingen-Germany.
And a
Vintage Dorko Straight Razor 5/8 with black handle in box no.93.
Made from the finest Silver Steel, and is hollw grounded.Black celluloid handle.
A razor from the 40ties .In verry good Used Shaving Condition,Handhoned and cleaned by the Barber himself.
Now i am waiting for the mailman

welcome to srp
these are good razors, the pictures are rather dark and it's very hard to tell the condition they are in.
i'm not sure what 'honed by the barber' means, did you buy them from a barber who just honed them for you?
btw my puma 89 is a 6/8 razor, and I had a 88 which was 5/8. i'm adding puma to my list of brands whose numbers make no sense to me.

I bought them from a shaving shop and al razors come shave ready and in this case the last owner (a barber) honed and cleaned the razors.
I did and i will. The last week i spend on this forum and youtube vids. It was a lot of fun, even without a razor.
Btw my compliments on this great site.

Thanked: 1903Welcome to SRP. Very nice Dorko. I was under the impression that the 89 was 6/8, too (been looking for a good one for two years now...).
Do check out the BeNeLux forum in here, too, and keep us updated on your progress.
Regards,
Robin

Welcome to SRP! Both Puma and Dorko are great razor brands. Do be aware that shave ready has different meanings to different people and that knife sharp isn't sharp in straight razors. If you have any problems there are many helpful people in your area that would be happy to assist. Good luck and I hope yo find SRP as enjoyable as I have.

Hi Danny,
Welcome to the forum !!
I was intrigued by your intro. I also have two spyderco's but honestly, I don't see myself shaving with those !! (especially as they're both with the typical spyderco teeth ).
Now, my rockstead on the other hand
