Thanked: 0Hello from foggy St Louis, MO
Hello everyone! It is a pleasure to find such an informative forum as I prepare to wade into the realm of straight razor shaving. I am very interested in the idea of a mentor. I have participated in our mentoring program at work as both a mentor and mentee. Definitely a mentee in this arena, as I have never had a straight razor shave, yet.
My other current interests are barbecuing, low and slow. Just bought my first charcoal water smoker last summer - love it. Also very into wine, particularly syrah at the moment. With barbecue, I am a novice, but learning quickly. Wine, that I have spent a good deal of time learning about, but always open to learn more every day.
I hail from St Louis, married, with a grown son and two dogs.
I look forward to getting a lot of advice on purchasing a vintage razor and all the things to go with.
Cheers,
Stan

Wellcome to SRP!
Everyone here is great and fantastically helpful. I'm a newbie too and I've learned so much already. Just have to put it into practice!
If you want to go vintage, do have a look on the Classified's. There are lots of great old razors going at very reasonable prices. Also, many of them are shave-ready (which is much harder to come by on, say, eBay, or an antique store).

stantheman,
Welcome to SRP...I grew up in St. Louis and watched Stan "The Man" Muscial play for the Cardinals.
You'll have little problem finding mentors here. As previous posts indicate, some SRP members are already wading in with good basic advice, ie. read the wiki, avoid ebay etc. Feel free to post any questions that you may have on the site. A member or most likely members will respond to your query in due time.
In addition to the SRP wiki there are numerous forums which contain a wealth of information about razors and their care, stropping, pre and post-shave preparations, shave creams/soaps, brushes--the list goes on and on. Last but not least is the "Classifieds" where you can find some pretty good deals on new and vintage razors that you can purchase from SRP members/vendors.
Again, welcome aboard and take care...Last edited by jhenry; 01-21-2010 at 11:37 AM.
