Thanked: 6New Guy
Hey, guys.
Brand new around here, and brand new to the idea of straight razor shaving. Still trying to learn as much as I can before making my initial razor purchase.
If anyone has recommendations on what to look for in a first razor, all suggestions are welcome. Also, if you have a moderately priced razor that would be an excellent beginner's razor, let me know.
Thanks, and I'm looking forward to learning from all you vets!

Welcome, Ryan
There are frequently good deals in the classifieds. They go fast so don't hesitate if you see a beauty. Just check the blade quality and the source member's reputations to be certain.

Ryan,
Welcome aboard! Hope you'll have an enjoyable and informative time here at SRP.
As previously stated, read the SRP wiki, esp. the sections that discuss the basic equipment requirements (ie. razor, strop, shave brush, and soap or cream) and brands of str8 razors to avoid. There is also a list of str8 razor brands currently in production as well as vintage razor brands that will fit the bill for a close and enjoyable shave.
Whatever razor you eventually decide to purchase--whether its from one of the vendors who advertises here or the SRP classifieds--make certain that the razor been professionally honed. Accept nothing less.
Finally, I would recommend that you consider purchasing a copy of Lynn Abrams' dvd, "World of Straight Razor Shaving." It certainly helped me get over a few significant hurdles during my sojourn into the world of str8 razor shaving.
One other thing...When you finally do purchase your razor, please post a photo of it here at SRP so we can admire it.
Take care..."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Thanked: 6Right, fellas...
I went ahead an purchased a nice vintage razor from the classifieds section...
This one
Seems to meet all the criteria I was reading about for a first razor. Now I need to acquire a brush, bowl, a strop, and some soaps / creams.
