Hello All
Hello and thanks for all the information this forum has. I'm just about to teach my teenage son to shave and came across straight razor shaving. My wife then pulled out an old stariaght razor she aquired during her various shopping trips. It is a wedge razor with the following marking "W. S. Searle Warranted". I can't wait to start - once I do my research and get the proper equipment and supplies.
Thanks
Glen

Hi Glen, welcome to SRP. If you haven't already accessed it here is the SRP Wiki with the beginner's guide and the tutorial on the first straight razor shave by SRP founder Lynn Abrams. I guess it is needless to say that if you are going to use the razor you now have it should be professionally honed. If you are buying something new it should be shave ready as well. If you could post a photo of the blade of the one you have we could tell you if it is in a good enough condition to warrant investing in honing.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

+1 to Jimmy on reading the beginners guide and go ahead and send your blade out to be honed up while you gather the rest of the supplies you need. Good luck on your journey into straight razor shaving. My stepson is 15 and has been shaving with a straight for over a year now. It is a great way to create a bond with your son that he will never forget.
