Thanked: 0Hello
I just found this site couple days ago and have been wandering around the vault of knowledge here. Figured it was time to make a proper introduction. I just started straight razor shaving a week ago with an old red imp case that I used a belt to strop..... Needless to say it was not the most pleasant shave and oh boy did I get razor burn but no nicks. I am really interested in this hobby/habit or in some cases seems to be an addiction. Due to the lovely Michigan job market money has been tight so I have not been able to afford some of the basic shaving accessories. Yesterday I received a present from my father in law. He gave me a strop, barbers hone, several brushes, and four straight razors. So last night I honed and stropped my case and gave another try this morning. Now I know what a good shave feels like and I am hooked. I look forward to sharing and learning from the other members here.
I have a quick question about the razors I received, I just want to know if they are of good quality? I assume they are because they were once owned by an old family friend who was a barber but you never know.
Here are the brands any info or links would be greatly appreciated.
Wade & Butcher: Sheffield
Dubl Duck: Satin Wedge
Cranford Razor Works: The Cranford
Blue Steel : handmade

Welcome to SRP!
It sounds like you are off to a good start if you successfully honed and shaved with those razors..! Well done!
If you havent already, give the Wiki a read as its full of useful information:
Straight Razor Place Wiki
W&B and Dubl Duck are well known names, and are both very good makes. I've not heard of the other makes, so I'll defer to the experts for those two.
Congrats again for diving in head first!Thats the best way I reckon...! Hehe!
Good luck!

Hello
Hello, Web:
See, it pays to be nice to your father-in-law. Keep smiling on smiling and nodding, I say.
First, welcome to Straight Razor Place. We're glad to have you. As you've read, visit the Wiki and the other corners at SRP.
As many also have pointed out, you have scored well with the W&B and the Dubl Duck. The other two might turn out to be good razors, too, one never knows. So now you have four razors to start with and plenty of other equipment. You're on your way.
Regards,
Obie
