Hello everybody...

I've been browsing the forum for the last week or so, so I thought I'd say a quick hello. I must say that this site is superb, I've already read so much and feel that is just the beginning.

I guess my reason for taking interest in a Straight Razor is the fact that I can't get on with these 3/4 blade things and that they are stupidly expensive (he says, as he buys himself a razor set at £116)

Anyway, I look forward to contributing more to the forum in the coming weeks, months, years!

Hey, whether or not something is too expensive depends on how well it works, in my mind. Spending a nice chunk on a razor that'll live longer than you isn't expensive. But spending 15 bucks on a plastic do-hickey that will only give you a couple decent shaves is definitely expensive in my mind.

Or at least that's how we justify ourselves here.

As you are in Southend, you are quite near Mr Neil Miller (Westcliff on Sea) who is the proprietor of www.strop-shop.co.uk.

Mr Miller makes strops of the best quality, and has refurbished razors for sale. He is an excellent chappie to deal with !

Welcome to SRP!

If you havent already, give the Wiki a read. Theres a link at the top of the page and it is full of useful advice and information.

When you start to shave, make sure you spend the time on the prep and get your stropping down. Keep the pressure light on the razor to avoid nicks, and just focus on one part of the beard at the start, say the right cheek, and then add more as your confidence grows.

Thanks so much for the welcome guys. I have read some of the Wiki section and have found it extremely useful so far.

PhatMan, thank you very much for that piece of info, it could come in very handy (especially the sharpening/honing service) What I do find quite funny is that I have bought strops and chromium oxide from the States for knife sharpening in the past, yet there is someone who sells it 5 miles from my front door! Doh!

Welcome to the site - I'm a noobie too however I've been looking in for a few months to get accurate info before I bought my kit. I don't like to make expensive mistakes. The forum has given me and others lots of valuable information.
