Thanked: 0Hi Everyone
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the cool site. I have been lurking for a couple of days since I picked up a straight razor on a whim at an local antique mall. At the same time I stumbled across a fairly old, but in decent shape, hanging strop and a Norton hone labeled India 1B6 in original packaging - looks to be 30-40 years old.
I have managed to achieve some degree of shave readiness on the razor with the norton stone + a chinese 12,000 grit waterstone I picked up + the strop (after cleaning it and rubbing it down with hard soap and pressing with a bottle which seemed to smooth it out quite a bit).
Obviously I am winging it a bit, but I was hoping someone could intervene with some expertise on the hones I am using before I try the same routine on a G.H. Pumacker Black Diamond that I just picked up yesterday which looks to be in great shape and I don't want to ruin it if I am way off base.
Thanks,

Thanked: 5Hi
Welcome Jagar!
I am new to the site too and I don't have enough hone experience to answer your possible questions however I'm sure someone can point you in the right direction. By the way there is a 'Hone thread' - try posting specific questions on there. I hope that this is of use.
Regards, Andy.

Welcome . . . agreed on using the hone section. I'm not sure what kind of advice you would even want.
