    Hi everybody,
I have been lurking around on these forums for a month or two now, and finally decided to sign up and start posting here and there.

I live in Edmonton, Alberta and am fairly young (23). At the moment i am a shaving with a Merkur Progress DE razor that i just got for Christmas from my lovely Fiancee. I mentioned it a few times, and she went and did a lot of research and got it for me And after looking up different things on the internet about it (brushes, shave creams, etc.) I came upon this website, where i realized that people still ACTUALLY shave with straight edge razors. After that i was hooked, i have always wanted a straight edge but didn't know that still really existed and were somewhat popular(?)

I am now in the progress of checking out the classifieds, looking for a decent straight edge for a newbie.

    Welcome to SRP!

The classifieds is a great place to find your first razor, and you wont got wrong buying from there.

If you havent already, check out the SRP Wiki, theres a link at the top of the page.

All you need to get started is a shave ready razor, a strop, a brush and some soap or cream.

Check out RupRazor.com for the Filly strop. This is a great beginners strop as you'll almost certainly nick the one you get...! Also check out Straight Razor Designs, which is owned by the founder of this site Lynn Abrams, as they sell a wide range of razors, strops, soaps and brushes and they also sell complete starter kits which offer an excellent way to get all the kit you need.

If you have any questions, dont hesitate to ask and make use of the wiki and search functions as well!

Welcome again, we're glad to have you with us and good luck!

    Brantd,

    Welcome to SRP...

Your journey to str8 razor shaving is a lot like mine. First a Merkur DE, then your first str8 razor.

As the previous posts indicate, if you're looking for information to make an informed decision concerning a str8 razor purchase, you've come to the right place. The SRP wiki and the forums are a great place to start.

As for purchasing your first str8 razor...There is the SRP "Classifieds" as well as a host of vendors who advertise here at SRP. If I recall correctly, there is even a Canadian merchant--Rasage Poulin--who advertises here. Wherever and from whomever you decide to buy your first str8 razor, SRP members are always ready, willing and able to offer advice and/or answer quetions in the forums that you may have.

Hoping that your str8 razor shaving experience will be an enjoyable one.

    Take care...

Welcome, nice to see more Edmontonians show up in the forum. I've got a couple of razors that I use as trainers for those who are new. If you are interested I'll let you take 1 for a spin before purchasing from the classifieds. At least then you'll know if you like a full hollow or not.

Drop me a pm if you are interested.
