Hello from New York
Greetings, gentlemen!
So, my story... I'm a Paramedic/U.S. Air Force Reservist currently residing in the New York City suburbs. I've been seeing my girlfriend for 8 months, a definite case of opposites attracting (she's in the fashion industry). I play golf when I have spare time, and I love driving my VW GTI.
I've been a DE shaver for a few months, and I've come to thoroughly enjoy every shave. I love working on my technique, trying different soaps & creams, and the community.
In terms of straights, my only real experience is with my Feather Artist Club RG (loaded with the Professional blades). The shave with the RG is great, but I find I sometimes have an uncomfortable pulling sensation when going against the grain on my neck. I'm looking into purchasing a traditional straight razor sometime soon (when funds allow)...
I look forward to getting involved at SRP, and hope you're all having a great New Year so far!
Cheers,
Bill

Welcome, from New York. Always glad to see new members, especially those who come for the friendly community as well as the information.
Since you are in the NYC area, do be sure to check the Get Togethers section under General for the upcoming NYC meet. I'll be heading into the city from White Plains, so perhaps we could even carpool and start the get together early!
I hope to see you there.

Hello From New York
Hello, Mr. Bill:
Welcome to SRP. Look around the site for all kinds of information about shaving with a straight razor. Especially check out the Wiki.
I, too, have a Feather with replaceable blades in the rack. I use it only for travels as a back up, in addition to a Merkur travel double edge. A regular straight razor with a strop are always packed in my travel dopp kit.
You will find, as I have, the regular straight razor will eventually shave much better than the Feather. To focus my comment even more: the regular straight razor is a completely different shave from the Feather, and more comfortable.
I do recommend to throw your glance toward a good but inexpensive straight razor. Many vendors noted at SRP offer starter kits that include razor, strop, brush and soap. SRP's classified also has a store of supplies that might suit you.
Any help? Please mention it here and you'll have your answer in no time. The best of luck to you.
Regards,
Obie
