    Talking ello Cobbers

Hello to All members ......I just started shaving with a straight razor a few weeks ...havnt I been missin out but no longer ...what a pleasure it is to have a shave with a straight ..when I always considered shaving such a chore ..I dont even know what made me take interest ...hmmmm ..I have a decent collection of hunting knives too many to acually put'em all to good use ...I spose its just my love of blades ...well I purchased a cheapie off ebay ..sniper brand ..had a shave with it and the rest is history " Im hooked just like ya'all " then I purchased a Bengall razor of ebay for the grand sum of $5 ..hehe ..but was dissapointed when it arrived with decent sized chips in the blade "not in pic or discription"...contacted the seller who refunded and sent me another that was in good nick apart from a chip outta the end a the scales blade ok fairly clean and with some polishing & honing seems to be an ok razor ..next My mother gave me all old kings crown str8 that she had picked up at a garage sale years back it hada fair bit a rust but also cleaned up well .....and will be pickin up another locally 2mora an EKS Gold Soligen ..it addictive if I just have 2 have another anyway I dont have a waterstone or any other flash honing gear ..all I got is standard silicon stones and a variety of steels ..an a tile of a cooling tower ...dunno what it s made outta but its super smooth ,...anyway I shapened the Bengall up on a stone then fine tuned it a bit on a diomond steel with the lightess a pressure followed by polishing up the edge on the tile ..it shaves smooth as no pullin ect like the cheapie ...I have nuthin else to compare it with but it its certainly shave ready gives me a cleaner shave with one pass than any a the plastic shavers I was usin ...I been reading alota posts here and with respect to all it seems that honing the razor is well a bit ofa Rocket science ...dont get me wrong I understand it takes skill ..I have a total understanding of getting a good edge on a blade cause I been doin it for years with workin hunting knives ..this is the first time I sharpened a razor and you guys are probly shakin ya heads in disbelief that the edge could be anywer near shave ready using standard knife sharpin gear ... but the proofs in the puddin and Im clean shavin no nick's ect ...It seemed to come to easy no issues with gettin all round the face ..I have a goatee and just love how the str8 cuts nice clean borders on the beard ...so anyway nice to meetya all ..I enjoy the board and will stop borin ya and go take a look around ...cheerz Baz

    Welcome to SRP.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
