Thanked: 0Hi from Australia
Hi everyone
I have been using a safety razor for the past 20 years and would like to start using a straight razor. I have been searching this site now for the past few weeks and would like to thank everyone here for the fantastic information that has been posted, it will make my job easier when i buy my first straight.
The only thing is most of the good priced gear is in USA and i live in Australia so i will have to look into geting it posted over here.

Thanked: 77Welcome from a fellow Australian!
The internet is a handy tool for finding stuff and comparing prices - but it can often work out cheaper to get stuff from overseas.
If you manage to resist any acquisition disorders and stick to a basic setup you should be fine... unless you want to part with lots of money of course!
There's also some locals who hone (check the classifieds).
Enjoy the journey,
Michael.

Thanked: 0I have just moved from Newcatsle to Katherine in the NT the joys of being in the airforce.
Yes the gear in the USA is at a good price, I have been looking at the razors on ruprazor and they are about my price plus he also has strops there at a good price as well. Has anyone from Oz bought from there?

grimmy,
Welcome aboard...
There must be a store somewhere down under that sells quality str8 razors, strops, etc. If they are not shave ready, then I am certain that an SRP member in Australia would be more than happy to hone it for you.
You should also check the SRP "Classifieds." There are most probably a few members in Australia or at least the western Pacific region who could help you purchase a str8 razor & strop at a reasonable price.

Thanked: 235I bought my first real straight, a Dovo En Vouge No. 105, at The Shaver Shop in Melbourne. I also bought a Black Beauty strop there too. I have since sold the strop but the razor is still in my collection. You can also get a good choice of brushes and some creams from the Shaver Shop. Something else you could try is walking into any barber shop you can find and ask if they have anything related to shaving.
