Default Hi everyone, and a question.

Greetings from Australia, my name's Lucas.

I'm absolutely new to straight razor shaving (hoping to buy my first straight on the classifieds here, I'm eyeing one of LarryAndro's)... in fact I'm pretty new to shaving in general, I'm 18 so I've only been shaving a few years :P

I've been shaving with a DE for about 18 months so I've got all the paraphernalia and know-how to make a good lather. All I need is a straight razor and a strop

On that note, does anybody have suggestions for an affordable beginner's strop (I've heard most people ruin their first strop, so I don't want anything brilliant)?

    Thanks!

    lukieh,

    Welcome to SRP...

++1 on the advice offered in the previous posts.

You made a wise choice starting with DE shaving before moving on to str8 razor shaving. So did I.

As for your question...I think you have a number of options. First, check the SRP "Classifieds" to see if there is a merchant in your area/region who has a cheap, quality strop for sale. Second, there is Rupp Razor here in the U. S. who sells a cheap, good quality strop. I think he ships internationally.

Finally, I have read here in the SRP forums that you can even make a strop from an old pair of denim jeans. I don't have the link or thread, but I am certain that you can find it or another SRP member will be able to direct you to it.

    Good luck!

    Welcome to SRP!

We're glad to have you with us!

The classifieds are a great place to get your first razor, I'm sure you'll find something there that you love!

In terms of the first strop, a very popular one is The Filly from RupRazor.

    RupRazor - The Filly

This is a great entry strop, as its made from very high quality leather (which is what a strop is really all about!) but is available at a great price as well, so if you do nick it accidentally you're not damaging a more expensive strop. It also comes pasted on one side with Chromium Oxide for use in touching up the razor.

A lot of people here have bought this strop and I have heard nothing but good reviews about it, so it should serve you well.

If you havent already, give the Wiki a read as there is loads of great advice and information in there.

Good luck and keep us posted!
