    Default Hello From CT

    Hello, Finallyfree:

As some have suggested, look in the Wiki for plenty of information, as well as in the various posts.

Have patience and go about honing your skill methodically. Most of all, throw away the clock. Work at the pace best suited to your natural capabilities. You're almost there. Stay with it.

    Regards,

    Obie

Hello Peter and welcome to SRP...

Don't worry about the length of the learning curve when it comes to str8 razor shaving. The real fun and enjoyment of str8 razor shaving--like life itself--is in the journey, not the final destination.

Take it slow and easy. The learning curve for str8 razor shaving is like playing golf. Its not a smoothly progressing upwardly climbing straight line. There will be times when you hit a plateau. That's ok. But your skill will grow over time, the more you use your str8 razor.

When I began this process, I only planned to shave with a str8 razor once a week. That was last December 25th. The first time I shaved my face was red as a beet when I finished. Now I am shaving every day with a straight razor. No razor burn and only an occasional nick. I even get an occasional BBS shave now and then; and their number is increasing. My point is that you too will develop into a skillful str8 razor user. All it takes is a razor, a strop and lots of patience. Your face isn't going anywhere, so there is no need to hurry.

In fact, if there is any one thing that str8 razor shaving has taught me it is to slow down...Life is too precious and has too much pleasure not to enjoy every waking minute of it.

The SRP members will be more than happy to offer advice to you when you hit a plateau. Many of them also offer services such as honing of your razor. There is also the SRP wiki which can answer many of your questions. Of course there is also the SRP "Classifieds where you can find yet another str8 razor--new or vintage--to add to your shaving rotation. Now that's fun!

    Take care--and smooth shaving...
