Hello from Detroit
Let me start by thanking everyone for all this information.I have been shaving straight for a few months now and am starting to make a break through. I have tried to do things right and I belive it is starting to pay off. I am having glimpses of exellence here and there. I don't know exactly what is different , but my razors are starting to cut like crazy.the only thing I can think of is I'm hitting the sweet spots on the proper angles. Same prep, same soaps, same stroping. Can't turn it on and off at will but when I'm in the zone, it's incredible! Driving is more fun than being a passenger. thanks again!

woodchuck,
You're quite welcome. And welcome to SRP.
You may want to check the SRP wiki. It may assist you in your quest for the perfect shave.
Whatever you're doing right, though, keep doing it.
Again welcome aboard--and smooth shaving..."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

That sounds just right. It usually takes a couple months and then, click, something changes and the shaves just get better and better.

True, when someone says "light" whether referencing honing or shaving, you have to find what "light" feels like. I think this method of shaving, aquisition of equipment, (stuff), and the tinkering involved is made to order for male make-up....like a bench full of quality tools, some of which, you'll use maybe once every two or three years, but, very, very necessary to have!!
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.

Congrats! It just gets better from here..!
I think a fair few newbies expect the results you're getting right from the start, and its very unusual for that to happen. From what I experienced, and from reading other peoples experiences, there is a definate learning curve. But once it clicks, its absolutely great and its just keeps getting better and better!
