I have used a safety razor for years but just bought two straight razors at an antique store, a Shumate No. 296 and a BEAU BRUMMEL No. 35. Don't know if I will change over to straight razors just yet, having fun with the safety razor still but I can see getting into it easily.

Would like to hear about the two razors I acquired however.

welcome to SRP, do you have any pics of your new razors? Both could be good shavers depending on the condition.

let us know if there is any way we can help you out... in the meanwhile, take the time to cruise through the wiki...TONS of stuff there that will save you countless hours of frustration. Good to have you

Welcome to SRP. As Dave said, take a look at the Wiki. Shumate and Beau Brummel are both 'good' razors. Depending on condition they may be worth paying to have them honed professionally. Post photos if possible and members will advise.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Hello, Tumco:

    Welcome to SRP.

Many similarities exist between the double edge razor and the straight razor. For starters, perhaps you can reserve the straight razor for the weekends, when you have more time. As a note of warning, however: it is easy to get hooked on the straight razor and the colorful ritual that comes with it.

Either way, we are pleased to have you with us.

    Regards,

    Obie
