    Default Greetings and salutations!

    Hello!

I made an honest attempt to use a straight a few years ago (an old Waterville), but I had to give up when my girlfriend bought me an electric for my birthday. I became the owner of a Braun electric shaver. It had served me well....until a year ago. Now it’s in some unknown landfill.

This thing had a little pop-out side trimmer that deactivates the cutting heads and allows you to trim sideburns when it's engaged. However, it's not supposed to just pop out on its own and stop the main cutters in the middle of your lip stroke....and proceed to grab and pull as the head wound down. The blasted thing wouldn't even close and stuck halfway open. I had just been settling for an ultra convenient mediocre shave mostly to appease my other half, and promptly disposed of it.

I tried again with the straight for a few months using an Atra Plus to supplement but it wasn’t going well. I decided to see what the web had to offer for advice, and fortunately I found this place first. I’ve been wading through that wonderful Wiki for a almost a year and have been getting quite the education here, both learning the craft and the community surrounding it. Thanks to this site and Lynn’s DVD my shaves are better than I’ve ever gotten in my entire life, and continue to get better!

My favorite quote from Lynn is “If you’re uncomfortable…then take that time, there’s no rush!”. It’s what I tell everyone when teaching them how to work a computer, and it’s nice to have it given back to you in such a meaningful manner.

I thought I owed to SRP to register and join the community (a big thanks for the help on my registration issues to Hoglahoo!) I’ve bought things from the classifieds here and from a few of your personal websites, but I felt that I’ve been taking too much and not participating enough. So here's my intro post, I hope it's sufficient.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I owe you a tremendous debt of gratitude for everything so far.

Sounds like you're on the right track. I tried an electric back in the early '90's and threw it away after the first week...it stunk.

Thanks guys, nice place you've got here.

Yeah, I'm also glad to see it gone. The electric had a close(ish) shave, but the shave wouldn't even last until lunch.

    Welcome aboard!
I was an electric shaver guy until three years ago. After my first two or three strokes with a straight razor I suddenly realized that my electric razor was headed for the trash!
