Thanked: 0Colorado Newbie
Hello gentlemen,
I am a 24 year old student in Colorado. I've never liked shaving; I've tried several different electric shavers, the whole Gillette gamut of Mach n's and yet I still suffer. My face skin is a mess, if I shave everyday I breakout and my face gets so oily that I almost outshine the sun, if I don't shave and let my hair grow then I breakout also. I have even gone to the extreme of plucking each hair out of my face and neck with tweezers and no I am not a trichotillomaniac. I've gone to dermatologists who put me on antibiotics and creams, but of course those have their caveats. So I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't.
So you might ask why I'm here and I'd respond by saying, "why not make an art out of that which I loathe?"
I would welcome any suggestions or the comradeship of anyone who shares my experience.

Thanked: 172Welcome to the site. If you read and follow the preshave routines in the Wiki and forums the oiliness may subside somewhat since there is a lot of cleansing especially if using the hot towels.
Good luck with your endever and ask all the questions you need to. There is a wealth of info and experience here with helpful members.Consider where you will spend ETERNITY !!!!!!

Welcome.....
You might be a candidate for face lathering
or just quality wet shaving.
Start with an inexpensive brush from CVS (~$8.00)
and an inexpensive puck of shave soap, Williams
or Van Der Hagen (VDH). Perhaps the VDH bowel, brush and
soap set that can be had for ~$12.00 even on Amazon.
Use only the most gentle 1/4" or less of the brush on your face.
If the brush feels too scratchy build the lather only in the bowel
massage the lather with your hands. Brushes like these soften
with time.
The key is to take advantage of a mild shave soap to
clean your face and enable a blade (any wet shaving blade)
to clean off them whiskers. You might skip the face lathering
and apply some lather from the bowel by hand massage it on your face, rinse
and reapply lather for the shave if you have a greasy skin.
Stay clear of double and triple+ blade razors. When
they mess up a face they do it with a vengeance. When I
had problems I learned to use a BiC yellow handled tossable
with a single blade or a new DE blade and single pass shaving.
Many people forget to rinse ALL the lather from their face
and that can be important for any soap. Give your face a
full 30 min to dry before adding any additional products.
One of the vendors has a fine hypoallergenic fragrance
free shave soap... It is about as mild as any soap and
I do recommend checking it out. You can use the
same brush and bowel.
All in all the goal in the above is to remove whiskers
without insulting your skin to the point of anger. Wet
shaving with a single blade can be
one way to do this.
Cologne, perfume, aftershave products are a mixed
blessing some love them some faces hate them.. I hate
them so I always start with a minimum.
Other will have other opinions all just as correct as mine.
Only your face knows what is correct.
