Thanked: 1Greetings from SW Wisconsin New member
Hey All,
Just wanted to make an introduction. My first straight razor hasn't even arrived in the mail yet but excited about learning to shave with one and all that it entails to make it shave ready. If there is anyone that lives relatively close, I'd like to meet and say hello and maybe get some tips on honing, shaving etc.
Attached is a photo of the razor I have coming in the mail. Sure hope I made a decent first purchase. CAN ANYONE TELL ME MORE ABOUT IT? AGE? Anything? Looks to be in great condition. This is a photo from ebay where I purchased it.
There WILL be more purchases for recommendations are certainly welcome.
Hope to hear from you and have enjoyed observing for a short bit. Now ready to jump in with both feet !!
Thanks,

Thanked: 995I don't know if the Wisconsonian shavers are going to have a meeting, but if the Minnesota group has another get together it will get posted on SRP. Keep your eyes open.

Looks like a nice blade. Not sure of the age but I haven't found a Solingen made blade that was not a good shaver. Biggest suggestion I can make it to make sure it is shave ready. If in doubt send it out to one of the people here that hone razors. You can find them in the member Services section of the Classifieds

Hello, Mark Eworth:
Welcome to SRP, the home of gentlemen, and gentle lady, shavers. As suggested already, please float around the Wiki for massive amounts of information.
I second Carrie's thoughts on the quality of Solingen razors. All mine have been great shavers and well put together. I cannot identify your razor, but we have a cast of experts who can.
By the way, I live in the Milwaukee area and will be delighted to help you out. If you are in the mood to drive this way, we can get together over coffee next week and I can give you some of my humble thoughts. You are more than welcome to send me a private message.
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 1MIKEBLUE, CARRIEM and OBIE.
All, thank you for the well wishes, information, suggestions and opportunites to meet up.
As for having someone hone my razor .. YES. Can any of you make a suggestion as to whom I should send it? That is one of the first things that I need to do. (It should arrive in the mail tomorrow and I'd like to get the ball rolling)
Mike M and Obie. That would be awesome at some later point in time to meet up, converse and learn from you.
I have already referenced the Wiki site and there is excellent information there and I will be referring to it repeatedly .
Thanks so much. PS. Glad to hear that it appears I've found a decent first razor. Now, to acquire all the accessories needed prior to my first attempt at shaving!!!!!

Mark,
Hello there and welcome to SRP.
That looks like a realy nice razor...Williams Bros. Cutlery - Solingen. ++1 on the previous posts. You shouldn't have any problems with that razor once it is properly honed.
You should also check out the SRP wiki on proper stropping teachnique, care of, etc. for your razor. If you take good care of it, that beauty should last for years and years.
Nor will Al's "The Bomb" disappoint.

Whereabouts in WI are you? I was just in New Richmond yesterday teaching a class.
