Thread: Salutations, chaps.

Gentlemen,

I'm new to the straight razor experience, and thought I would spend a short portion of my time introducing myself to a small degree. My name is BluSpy, and I have recently purchased a Dovo Shavette disposable razor set, some more expensive fine soaps, and (or course) a brush. Unfortunately due to budget and current expenses I was only able to get a horse hair brush (not very comfortable).

Soon I hope to save a good sum of American currency in order to purchase a full set, including a shave-ready blade, and a strop. I'm still reading the beginners section, so any advice not given, or videos not shown would be helpful to tip me off with.

+1 on paco's advice. Read the SRP wiki, peruse the websites of the vendors who advertise here at SRP and check out the "Classifieds" forum. Let your Razor Acqusition Disorder (RAD) kick in and you'll have a bevy of beautiful str8 razors in your possesion in no time.

When you do decide to spring for your first real srt8 razor make certain that it is shave ready, that is profesionally honed. You should also seriously consider purchasing, at minimum, a razor & strop combination (3" strop width preferrred).

I do plan to get a strop and razor kit, with the razor being shave ready. A simple cleaning of the oil and then smooth shaving. I did do some other research before discovering this website, of course. However, I find this place to be the most prestigious source for straight razor information, equipment, advertising, and shaving tips/techniques.

Once again, thank you. Any further comments or welcomes are appreciated. I will continue reading, and with the help of this site and it's community; I'll hopefully heighten myself onto a platform of enjoyment and experience.

Actually as far as strops go I just made one out of an old belt( fine leather belt) It works nice.

Good for you.

However, a while ago one another newbie reported ruining a shave ready razor on a belt that wasn't good enough. My advice is to start with a known quality item.
