Default Finally registered and making a post.

    Quick story:
In early February, I visited Art of Shaving in San Antonio, and perused their selection of straight razors. I knew 2 things, I hate electrics, and I hate disposables. Straight razors seemed like the only logical choice. I also enjoy things that seem to be a lost art among gentlemen (i.e. fountain pens, whisky.)

I wasn't quite ready to throw down 200 bucks to get the Thiers Issards they carry there, but I did get the shaving kit which includes: pre-shave oil, tub of shaving cream, a decent badger hair brush, and after-shave balm. I decided to get a Dovo Shavette to at least get a glimpse of what a straight would feel like.

Shortly afterward, I purchased this little guy on eBay:

(I believe it could be sharper as I have to attack it with a hair for it to succeed the hair splitting test, but I believe that 80% of my slight issues with it is my technique, either way, I love it)

I am slowly working on my methods and loving it. I am also partially obsessed with trying to restore a razor. I have bought a few cheap vintage ones on ebay to practice with since then. This weekend, I'm going tool shopping.

I'm not going to post anything about my first shave yet, I will when I have a real shave that I'm proud of. Just yesterday, I discovered (after reading a persons thread with similar hair-tugging sensation issues) that by not putting any pressure what-so-ever on the blade to my face, it cuts more hair.

Anyways, this site is the main reason for my new hobby/obsession. So I thought it appropriate to give a formal Hello.

BTW: Here are the three old razors I bought to practice restoration on (I have no expectations about the current quality or outcome of these razors, and I bought them for like <5 bucks a piece.) I don't really even remember bidding on the last one. It doesn't even have a brand in the description or anything and thats the best picture of it =/

Welcome to SRP. Glad to see that you've jumped in with both feet. I don't know the razor you bought at AOS but the one two toned scaled resto project resembles a Beau Brummel I have. At least the scales do. As time passes you'll find that straight razor shaving gets nothing but better and better.

It is indeed a Beau Brummel 35, I think its the older of the models. It has the hammered finish on the tang.

They are great shavers and take a wicked sharp edge. You've got a good one there if it is pro honed.
