Greetings
Over 40 years ago, I started shaving my peach-fuzzed cheeks with a straight razor. Over time, I switched to the double-edge, then disposables...always thinking the straight would still be better and missing the mystique. Both my granddads were straight-razor shavers (of course) and I don't recall ever seeing them nick themselves. They were smooth and neat, and one could peel an apple without breaking the paper-thin peel...i suspect straight-shaving had something to do with that touch.

So recently I thought I'd try it. Without much advice or information, I launched with a cheap Krieger...and ended up looking like I was joining a German dueling fraternity. So I came here, read some articles, and bought a nice, hand-honed Dovo from one of the vendors.

I'm getting the hang of it, enjoying it, and glad to know this group is here. I enjoy the "zen" of the straight-razor, from selecting to honing and stropping to the shave itself. I'm still practicing honing (with that Krieger to see if it will ever even take an edge, much less hold one) and I have a couple older razors, a Geo. Wostenhom & Son IXL and Feinster Silberstahl, both of which seem to have sound blades, which I hope to refresh to usable condition.

So thanks for the site and the good information!
