    Talking Greetings from Southern California

    Hi there!
I wanted to say a quick hello to everyone on the site. I've had a curiosity about straight shaving for a couple of years but never really had the opportunity to look into it further. After finding this place, its knowledge base and the helpful/friendly people I believe it's time to jump in with both feet.
    Wish me luck and thanks.

    Now, I think I need a drink.

Hello, and welcome. You have indeed come to the right place. All the information can make your head swim, but your budget can make alot of that easier. If the budget is tight, there are still good options. Boar brushes can be had for less than $10 at your local pharmacy, strops start at around $20. A servicable razor is easy to find in the classified for less than $60. "Truely" Shave ready can not be over stressed, dragging a dull razor across you face sucks and does nothing but make it harder to learn. If the budget is not tight, you have tons of choices but alot of the choices are personal preference which is hard to be sure of if you don't know what you like. Read as much as you can absorb and ask questions, we have all been where you are at and can save you some grief and maybe a little blood.

    Thanks Gugi and Woodchuck.
For now, I went with the a Dovo 6/8 and Strop from SRD. That should hold me over until my budget loosens up and I can start hunting some more steel. I get the feeling I'll have a bad case of R A D inside the next few years.

Howdy there, you may be close to others in the So Cal area, Check up on the map in the Community Link above. It's handy to get together with others when it comes time to go hunting the local shops and all other aspects of this lifestyle

    Welcome to SRP

Stubear, your links are exactly where I got started here.

Dwarven, looking at the map I'm hell and gone from most everyone else. On the other hand, I'm about 20 miles from the ClassicShaving store.

Welcome to SRP. Pleased to have you aboard.

After reading the SRP wiki and surfing this site, you ought to be ready to take the plunge into the world of str8 razor shaving. Whichever razor you decide to get, make sure that it is expertly honed before you shave with it.

And remember...You're only a click away with your mouse--wherever you decice to purchase your first straight razor shaving set.

Again, welcome to SRP. Take care--and smooth shaving.
