    Smile Hello SRP

G'day everyone. I've been a long time lurker, and joined the forum January this year after receiving my first str8/cut-throat razor (a loaner - thanks Luc). I've certainly been experiencing much of what I've read about this type of shaving. I'm still enjoying the time and rituals involved, as well as the variety of these razors. I fear this AD could be stronger than other types. I recognise some old friends from TSD, B&B and made some new ones with this new 'form of the game'. Daily weapon is a 6/8 full hollow c.friedr ern "master" honed by Onimaru Oz. I have 7 other cut-throats/str8s, but they are not (yet) shave ready. I'm very pleased to meet everyone here. I've read and learned so much. It's a great supportive community.

    Welcome to SRP!

A 6/8 ERN is a great razor, I love mine and wish I had started on something that shaves as smoothly! And I'm sure I speak for the community when I say:

    1. We look forward to getting to know you

    Default misadventure - antique strop

Thanks for the welcome guys. Here is the master, honed by Oz from Oz.

Misadventure #1 - restoring antique strop. When? Yesterday and present. I followed advice from another forum, but it went wrong...I fear (except for the canvas/linen - that worked). Advice/direction suggested: wash strop with tallow rich soap (tabac) which I did, use a pumice stone (natural), which I did and lay flat on cloth. Appears a lot of the pigment or dye was washed out (along with the filth and the cordovan is scratchy, and dry. A lot of suppleness has gone I tried the search engine here, but unsuccessfuly. I'm hopeful it can be rejuvenated and given the serviceable life it deserves. After all, 'the old nag' died to become a strop.

G'day Craig. I recognised the razor but not he guy in the slouch hat
    Welcome aboard

If the strop is scratchy 'cause its dry, a bit of neatsfoot oil or leather conditioner of some kind will help but if it has grit embedded, well...
