If you have access to hot water it should be little problem to shave with a straight in the field but I would suggest the use of a small hand held signal mirror that can be hung or propped up until you learn your face and blade. Straights take far more skill than disposables with their pre adjusted angled head. I would also suggest a stainless blade and plastic scales for rust prevention. Hard soaps should not be a problem in jungle heat or freezing temps. Be sure to find a strop made of synthetic material(nylon webbing from a cargo pallet comes to mind or car safety belt). If you have any more questions please feel free to PM me as I am an old grunt myself, US Army 77-84.
