Hey all! I'm from the Finger Lakes Region of NY State. Going off to Law School in the fall and spending the summer honing my Straight Razor skills. My first shave was a day ago and I didn't cut myself! However, as expected, it was a pretty bad shave, a lot of pulling on the hair, etc. I practiced my strop several times today and I'll give the entire thing a go again tomorrow... with better stropping and preshave prep this time.

Thanks for this forum and for introducing me to this new world of shaving. Very excited to continue perfecting this art form!

Welcome to SRP. If you haven't already done so take a look at the SRP Wiki beginner's guide. That will give you some stuff to go with and you can find a link in my sig below. If your razor wasn't professionally honed it probably will give sub par shaves. There are a number of members in upstate NY who might be able to help you out. Give holli4pirating a PM, he lives in Rochester and hones for a nominal fee.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Welcome to SRP!

It's not uncommon for one's first shave to be a bit anticlimactic....mine sure was. Don't give up and you'll get it sooner than later.

Welcome! Holli4 does a great job of honing. I've purchased two shave-ready razors from him, and both have produced killer shaves. I'm sure you won't be disappointed with his work.

    Cheers,

    Larry
