Shaving has become a passion
Dear Friends,
I have had quite the shaving career up until now. I started out with an electric razor i got from my father about 6 or 7 years ago.
I never really enjoyed the electrical shave and recently decided to start using a multiple blade trow away razor. Of course I went for the cheap brand and didn't get of to a great start (cuts everywhere). I switch to a name brand and feel allot better about it at this point but it still doesn't really float my boat.
Anyhow, I have decided to become a straight razor shaver (or however you call it). I have been a knife enthusiast and retailer for many years and many of my camping and pocket knives are ridiculously sharp. I have always like sharp and beautiful knives (especially damascus) and the straight razor is no exception. I bought some old straight razors and got them up to shape but I haven't really been able to use them to shave (they are really sharp, but not as sharp as i like them to be to have a comfortable shave).
I hope to find a nice straight razor here and maybe some nice honing and stropping equipment so I can fully commit to the art of straight razor shavingLast edited by TheSkyer; 06-04-2010 at 04:01 PM.

Shaving passion . . .
Hello, TheSkyer:
Welcome to Straight Razor Place, and to the world of shaving gentlemen.
Please float through the Wiki for a vast amount of information on straight razor shaving. For your razor, the vendors advertising at SRP have a variety for you. Also, please look in the Classifieds.
Send those razors you already have to be honed professionally. You'll find good names in Member Services here.
If you have questions, don't forget to post them. Initially, though, I suggest concentrating on honing your straight razor skill and technique. That in addition to making proper lather during your preparation. Your own honing can come later. Also, you need to concentrate on proper stropping, as that is of the utmost importance.
We are delighted to have you with us.
Regards,
Obie

+1 to what obie said. Get at least one of those blades professionally honed while you're waiting for your hones to show up. This will give you a baseline for your honing adventures.

Well I live in the Netherlands lands where straight razor shaving is completely out of style unfortunately. Wouldn't know where to get my straight razor honed properly around here and the postal services in Holland charge crazy amounts for sending any kind of package across the border...

Thanked: 1371Welcome to SRP!
There happens to be a section of the forum devoted to your part of the world: BeNeLux Area - Straight Razor Place Forums
I'm betting that if you post a message there asking for help with honing, you'll find someone that can give you a hand.

Thanked: 195Welcome to SRP. Like you, I always considered shaving a chore, and had even resorted to an electric razor to shorten the time of shaving. Since switching to straights, shaving has become a daily ritual that I look forward to. If I have to get up early in the morning, I shave at night so I can take my time and have a relaxing, enjoyable shave. My only regret is that I didn't discover it sooner.
Regards,
Mark
