Thanked: 31Hello from Wisconsin
Hello,
I am new to straight razors.. I have been shaving with vintage DE 40's super speed since January. I have learned a great deal and have had a lot of fun. I have been doing a lot of reading of the FAQ and Wiki. After a lot of reading a decided to buy a few NOS Wapienica, which still need to be honed. I also have just purchased a Wade & Butcher from the classifieds which will be shave ready! I am looking forward to shaving with the razor. I seem to like vintage razors the most. I do have a vintage Russian razor that needs to be restored as well.
At some point I would like to buy a good hone and trying honing myself.. I understand the norton 4k/8k seems to be the best to start out with. I am thinking that the norton set might be the way to go.
I am looking forward to learning more about straight razors. Thank you for the information that can be found here.

Welcome to SRP. The norton set is a good way to go IME. Good that you have a shave ready razor coming to you to compare your results with the W&B you've got coming. If you haven't already check out the wiki below in my sig line for Lynn's article on the first straight razor shave and his pyramid guide for using the nortons. The wapi can be hit and miss quality wise and some are hard to hone because of that from what I've read. Never had one of my own. Any questions come up ask away and someone will help out.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 31Jimmy,
Thanks It is good to know I am on the right track with the norton. . Yes, looks like the W&B will be it for my first straight razor shave and looking forward to that. I did read some posts on the Wapi being hit or miss as you said for quality. I have 3 of them so hopully I have atleast one good one. The reason I have 3 is the price was good and I wanted an extra to practice my honing skills and if I mess up so what.. I thought of having one rescaled...
