    Default Greetings from NC

    Hello all

I am new to the straight razor world. In fact I am posting this 15 minutes after my first straight razor shave, which I thought was fitting. I wanted to use a straight razor for nostalgia. I remember going to the barber shop with my grandfather as a young boy and enjoying the feel of the straight razor on my neck. I have also been a knife guy for a long time so what better to do than learn to use a straight razor.

I found all of the items that I used from information here on SRP so thank you all.

There was just one small bloodletting with my first shave and that was on my left side. Considering I wear a bear so this was really a beard shaping and neck shave I do not think that it was to bad. I will be spreading the joy of the straight razor.

    Hazen

Welcome to SRP. Not sure how far you are from Asheville but I believe that is where a bunch of the gang are getting together this weekend. Here is a thread with information on it. If you can get down there it would be a great introduction to the sport of straight razor shaving. One way or the other check out the SRP Wiki linked in my sig line below for more great info and ask any questions here on the forum as they come to you.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I wish that I had known earlier and I would have been there. I cannot make it up tomorrow, but I will make it next year. Asheville is one of my wifes favorite cities and we are only 2.5 hours away.

I will have to make due with playing with razors myself this weekend. I just finished honing my beater razor to see if I could do it. I guess all of the hours that I have logged honing just about any other edged implement has paid off, because I now have another shave ready razor. I wish that I had tried this earlier. My next shave will be with the one that I just honed to see how I did.
