Thanked: 0Hi from Minneapolis
I just thought I'd say hello. The rundown: I've always been a knife guy, I have a tough beard and mildly sensitive skin, and I'm fairly familiar with metallurgy and high-end grinding from spending about a decade doing work that involved quite a bit of both.
I got a very worn frameback razor at a thrift store in Duluth to practice honing on (my barber kindly loaned me his stone), and I actually kind of enjoy it now. I'm not interested in the style aspect, and I'm mostly looking for good basic tools that do the job without too much fanfare.
Anyway, thanks for putting up such a nice forum.

Hi Karl, welcome to SRP. There are a few members in the twin cites area that would probably be glad to help you out. I'm sure when they see your post they will say hello too. In the meanwhile if you go to the link in my sig line there is much useful info in the SRP Wiki. Ask any questions you may have and someone will help out if they can.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 2209Hello,
Welcome to the SRP! There are a bunch of SRP guys in Minnesota and we get together about once per year. usually it has been at the workshop ofMike Blue in Cannon Falls. Frequently some guys come over to my place in East St. Paul and we have honing sessions and talk about razors & hones etc.
You are always welcome to come over. My email is in my signature line and I will send you a PM with my phone and address.Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

Thanked: 0sounds good
Thanks for the invites. It's definitely a hands-on thing, so a local group sounds like a good idea - and a good excuse to hang out and talk shop.
