    Default The long journey

    Hi to everyone

Ever since I started shaving I have used all types of the multi bladed, flexi headed, some cheap and some not so cheap, plastic disposable razors. And few electric ones. A lot of heads are nodding [been there done that] trying over the years to find a nice shave.

So I find myself with a blank look staring at the multitude of choice in the gents grooming section of the local supermarket, when out of the corner of my eye I see a proper double edged blade razor like my dad used to use. That was straight into the trolley, a quick look about and I found a shaving brush and hard soap made by wilkinson sword.

That was a few weeks ago, after a bit of practice and a little blood loss I seemed to find a really good shave. A bit of research on the internet led me to this site and the possibility of a better and even more eco friendly shave..... The Straight Razor....

With the encouregement of my wife, She loves the smooth face, my interest of all things sharp and the massive amounts of information [that I will thank you all for now] to be found here on SRP, I am going to take the first steps on the long journey to find the ultimate shave.

Congrats on choosing the straight razor route and not giving in to Gillettes latest no-so-greatest gimmick (you know, the just-released ''revolutionary'' 5 thin bladed gizmo). All the info you'll ever need is right here.

    Cheers,

    Ryan

Congrats and welcome to the club! If you like all things sharp (and keeping them sharp yourself), then you are among friends here. There is a satisfaction in maintaining and using a straight razor that is found no where else.

Do lots of research, and keep us updated on what you get, and how things go for you.

Glad to see you come to your senses Yep, most of us have been down that Mach 12 road! For the first razor, get a used/restored one that is shave ready to ensure that using a straight is for you at an affordable price. Once you get BBS (baby smooth shaves) every time you try, you can get a new one for your "graduation" gift. Experimenting with blades, brushes, soaps, strops is a journey in itself, but a rather pleasant one as long as you don't get one of the dreaded diseases associated with straight shaving: RAD, HAD, SAD, or BAD...

This is a journey that I'm sure you will enjoy & the lil' lady will love you for it. Heck, she may jump on board as well...there are a few lady's on the forum as well...
