    Default Hello from Kentucky

Hello all, stumbled in here in on a quest for a good shave, been lurking for a while. I have never been happy with my results shaving, either my neck is in in a continuous state of stubble, or it is so red and raw it appears I was intent on cutting my own neck with a disposable bic, yet somehow thwarted in the continuous effort by the moisturizing strip.

Just the little bit I have read on here has helped tremendously. Who knew that facial hair grows in any number of directions? (well, I guess you guys do, but where were you when I was trying to look good in high school, Hummm?) So, even with my disposables I'm learning to shave with the grain, I've picked up a badger brush and soap to replace the can-o-foam, and started using and aftershave lotion when I read that they're not all made of liquid fire. The improvement just with this has been remarkable. I've also learned that 2 passes with a 3 blade disposable is WAY to much!

So now I'm considering moving on to the straight or a DE. I may be leaning more DE as I know where I can get one for the 'right price' (I think my Dad has one he's not using), though the straight is appealing. I like analog watches, manual transmissions, tube amplifiers, and sail boats; a razor that requires the application of skill is not a far stretch for me.

So, thanks to all for the great advice I've revived so far. Lets see where this road goes.

    Welcome!

Why not spring for a straight razor and a DE? You can get a shave ready straight on the classifieds here and still take your father's DE! Trust me, you will soon be mortgaging your property to pick up new shave gear!

    Hello, Transect:

    Welcome to Straight Razor Place.

The world of wet shaving with the straight razor eventually becomes a way of life. It's a delightful parade of rituals. Pleasureful, I might add. Eventually it becomes a sweet obsession. For many of us, it not only becomes a good and healthy way to shave, but also a hobby.

That you have decided to bid good riddance to your cartridge razor is a big battle. You already have won. If on your way to enjoy straight razor shaving you must detour to a double edge, that is perfectly acceptable. Many of us took the same route. Many of us still use the double edge when limited for time. I do.

So take your time in the long introduction to the straight razor. You will find the double edge and the straight razor share many characteristics. In the meantime, please continue with your research in the Wiki. Also, watch as many videos you can find on U-Tube on straight razor shaving.

If I may give a warning in your straight razor purchases, start slowly and don't buy up the store. There is plenty of time for that. Also, stay away from buying razors on eBay until your learn your way around.

Any questions, please ask. Good luck.

    Regards,
    Obie
