Thanked: 0New Guy...Help!
Hi everyone,
My name is Jim, I have been a knife maker for a little over 7 months now. I learned from Jay Genske. A few weeks ago a friend asked me if I could make him a straight razor. I said sure, how hard could it be. I have a lot of respect for you makers or razors, there is a lot of symetry I was not prepared for, but I did make one. Well I am making one as we speak. I joined for two reasons, the first is out of respect for your knowledge. The second is out of respect for your skills. I will be asking a lot of questions, I hope you don't get bored with me.
Thanks,
Jim K.

Welcome to the fold Jim.
I am not a knife maker, but like you, have a lot of respect for them...that's one heck of an art.
Anyways, you will find a lot of nice folks that are knowledgeable in the area that will help you. Don't be shocked by the amount of information
Kick back, ask questions, and most importantly: HAVE FUN!!

There are some talented makers here. I have only attempted to make 2 razors, and I can tell you, it it renewed my respect for the talents of the guys who do this well. Good luck on your journey.
I will say that unless you use a straight razor, I believe it's unlikely that you'll be able to make a well balanced, functionally excellent razor without a lot of collaboration with someone who does.
