Thanked: 7Hello from TN
Thanks for the wonderful site and information here!
I am looking at getting into straight Razor shaving and it sounds like it will be a learning adventure! Currently I am using disposable razors and mach3's. I have started using lather(before it was simply water) and I am working on different strokes. I plan on picking up some wool fat shaving soap and a badger brush to work on my lathering with disposables. After a week or so I then plan on picking up a straight razor here on the forums and a strop or similar along with the DVD!

Welcome from a native Tennessean (but now in Alabama). You've come to the right place. Be sure to read through the WIKI. Lynn's video is also incredibly helpful.
Good luck!

Welcome!
I did the exact same thing and practiced lathering a lot to learn the correct water/soap/creme ratios. The lather on my first shave was a disaster, so before I shaved again, I made sure I had my lather down.
Might I suggest practicing on a less expensive soap than MWF. Not that it will break the bank, but decent shaving soap can be bought at the local pharmacy stores (CVS, Walgreens) for very, very cheap.
Good Luck!

Thanked: 7I think my wife would love that idea and it is very logical! Thank you and I will give that a go.
Edit: are there local venues that sell badger brushes or even boar hair brushes to get started? Seems everything decent in that department is online but admittedly I haven't looked at a CVS/Walgreens for either.
I will probably print the wiki on pdf. I have read through it but as with all things it usually takes me a few reads and experience to really sink in.Last edited by jmreeves; 06-21-2010 at 09:25 PM.
