Thanked: 983G'day
G'day all, I'm Mick and although not totally new to straight razors, I have questions on aspects of uses and honing. I've been lurking for a few weeks before deciding to register. I have a 'keen' interest in all things sharp and scary looking (to the ill informed), I have made my own knives and taught a good mate how to do the same, I have been sharpenening same for many years now as well. The straight or 'cut throat' razor as they're known here, is altogether different from the sharpening of a good knife and therein is my reason for joining, so that I may learn as much as I can about the sharpening and care of a 'cut throat' razor. I look forward to being a member of this forum as I have already learnt so much from just reading OP posts.

Thanked: 195G'day Mick,
And welcome to the Straight Razor Place forum. Good to have you aboard. You've certainly come to the right place to learn about all things concerning straight razors. I'm not a honer, but there are certainly some experts here. This place is full of useful information and very friendly people. Enjoy.

Thanked: 1587Hello Mick,
I am in Brisbane too. PM me if you like. I can show you the ropes of razor honing. It is pretty easy actually, but we like to make it complicated

Thanked: 983G'day MrBoker (Boker knives?) and Jimbo. Just logged back on as I only had time to write the above intro today. Good to see such fast replys to an intro too. Many thanks. Jimbo I would like to take up your offer at some stage. I reckon I'm doing it right but I also reckon it never hurts to double check anything. Measure twice and cut once, so to speak.
With regards honing, I think I need to find an even finer hone than my 6000 grit. I can shave with it but there is always the question of how much better could I get it if I had an 8000, 12000, 30000. I hope I don't get HAD.

6k is still in the sharpening range for most of us. Finishing starts at 8k and I'm sure many would agree.
HAD is just another side affect RAD tends to be very contagous as well. However there are so many AD's and they are all so much fun...
Once you hit JHAD (Japanese HAD) or CHAD (Coticule HAD)... Your a gonner...
