Thanked: 31Welcome to SRP!
I am new to straight razors , but I own 2 Wade and butcher straight razors and they are a fine razor. I Had my first straight shave with a Wade and Butcher. I am quite happy with mine.
Boker is a very good one as well, but I don't own any
Shumate seems to be a good one as well far as I know.
These 3 i have listed are on the good razor list
Good Straight Razor Brands - Straight Razor Place Wiki
I am sure others will be posting and can add more information also.

to many good razors out there to list. In a short peice of advise, start with country of manufacture. Any thing made in a third world country is hit or miss. English ,German ,US, French and Spanish steel has a long reputation for quality. Not the end all sign of a quality razor but a good place to start. Good luck in your choice.

It depends what you are looking for
I would pick according to condition, because I like a razor that can be made to shave without much headache, and I would certainly pass on anything that I knew could not be salvaged for shaving. What are you after?Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

You have quite a list of straight razors there.
The brands I am familiar with are Boker, Shumate and Wade & Butcher. All are legendary vintage razors and excellent shavers. In fact, I have one or more in my own straight razor collection.
From your photos, the Boker looks like it is in bad shape. The Spear appears salvageable, despite a chip in the blade that has to be removed by honing. The Shumate appears salvageable too.
The razor that appears to be in the best condition is the S. D. Shaw. Clean it up, hone it and shave with it.
Just my 2 cents.
I am not familiar with the other razor brands that you listed. However, I am certain that there are SRP members more experienced than I who will be able to provide you with information about them.Last edited by jhenry; 07-01-2010 at 12:51 AM.

Thanked: 3795The Henckels is well past its prime. The Spear is fixable with work to remove the chips. The other two are fine. Just get them honed up and you're off to a good start!
