Thanked: 2Count me in
Greetings, nice place y'all have here. I've been lurking for a while, and figured it was time to introduce myself, especially since I just anted up for the necessary gear.
So I'm out here in Iraq, doing what I have to do, and rumor has it there's this guy who shaves with a straight. I've never seen him myself, but as you might imagine, he has generated a lot of conversation. I started thinking to myself, "why would anyone want to shave with a straight razor?" So I did some research, and after doing a lot of reading (mostly on this site), now I'm thinking to myself "why WOULDN'T anyone want to shave with a straight?"
So I've been waiting, reading, and learning, and now that I'm about a week out from going home, I decided the time was right to make my purchase. I went with a wet shaving kit from SRD, everything I need in one convenient bundle. I had my eye on a Dovo Best Quality, but it turns out the current monthly special is for the Boker Edelwiess, so I went for it. It'll be great to go home, but now it will be just that much sweeter, knowing that my new adventure in shaving will be waiting for me.
I do want to say thanks to the moderators, and to all the members who have contributed their vast knowledge to this site. It's a great resource, and I look forward to learning more.

Count Me In
Hello, dsmith:
Welcome to Straight Razor Place. The starter kit you have ordered is perfect, especially since it comes with the Boker "Edwelwiss." It will come to you honed by one of the best, the noble Lynn Abrams, who also is in charge of all my razors.
From here, take your time honing your skill with the straight razor. Learn all you can. Part of the enjoyment of the art of wet shaving with the straight razor is in the colorful ritual. Embrace it all.
If you have questions, please post them. Everyone here is more than willing to help out. In the meantime, from a Vietnam veteran, stay safe, my good man.
Regards,
Obie

Welcome!
You're definately in the right place to learn, and it sounds like you've done your homework, which is great..!
The Boker Edelweisse is a great razor, a sweet shaver and looks good with those bone scales, so definately a good choice there.
All I can really add to Obie's post is pull up a chair and make yourself at home, and thank you for your service!
Stay safe and good luck with your straight razor journey!
