Greetings to you all. I have been shaving with a DE safety razor for about 6 months now, and have decided to start looking into using a straight razor. I had the misfortune of ordering a zeepk razor to have a cheaper starting blade, prior to finding this site. I am hoping to find a shave ready blade in the classifieds here, and then join the ranks of you who have brought shaving back to an art.

Welcome to SRP,
The ever present Zeepk trap, don't sweat it.... it happens.
Just think of it as a good opportunity to benchmark a good razor vs a junk razor when you get a good one.
Cheers

Hello, Peter:
Welcome to Straight Razor Place. The Zeepk is like a bad dream forever waiting in ambush. I suggest using the razor to practice honing later on.
For now, look around the SRP site for a wealth of information and tutorials on everything from making lather to stropping and shaving. The material also informs you on what to buy for your first razor. Beyond that, if you have questions, please ask and you will have your answer in no time.
We are delighted to have you here.
Regards,
Obie

Welcome!
+1 on Obies advice, keep that Zeepk as a practice razor to learn to hone. It wont be so much about getting the razor sharp, but use it to develop the muscle memory of making the X stroke and developing the feel for the razor on the hone.
Thats exactly what I did with an old microtome when I started, rather than blasting my new razors on the hones. I wasnt focusing on getting it sharp, but it taught me how to make the X stroke, how to ensure that the whole edge makes contact with the hone, and what varying amount of pressure will do to the edge. As it happens I did actually get it sharp in the end, but the steel was so poor the edge didnt hold up to use..!
The classifieds is a good place to get your first razor, and will start you on your way nicely.
Be sure to check out the Wiki articles linked in my sig line as they will hopefully help answer some of your questions.
Other than that, make yourself at home..!
Good luck and keep us posted!

Welcome to SRP Peter. You're not the first nor will you be the last to purchase a Zeepk. It's great that you didn't loose hope in straight shaving due to their lack of ability to give a good shave.

Welcome to SRP. If the acquisition disorders come to you the way they came to me the Zepeek will come in handy to open the boxes that will be showing up on a weekly or daily basis. Read the old barber's advice below to avoid nicks and cuts.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Welcome to SRP. There are some great blades available on the classifieds. I've bought a few from the classifieds myself (all but one were excellent purchases).
You've gotten good advice here. Pick up a blade on the classifieds and buy yourself a good strop. (If I were starting over, I'd probably get an SRP Premium series strop because the leather can be easily replaced after you cut up your first one...) Then read the wiki, and join the fun!
