Thanked: 2G'day
Hello gents!
My name is Rob and I was introduced to this forum by Disburden (Nick).
At this stage, I have absolutely zero to offer... and I have everything to learn about Straight razors and the art therof.
I remember in 2006 I was looking for somewhere to get a straight shave done... and could not find an establishment anywhere. Well, since that day I have often regretted not getting one and always had in the back of mind to look into it.
Fast forward to last week, and Disburden posted a thread about Straights on cigar forum I frequent... and booom... my eyes lit up! It must be fate.
So, Im here. The wait has been long. I'm looking forward to this... but my wallet is in fear of my obsessive compulsive collecting habits.

Welcome Rob, this is the best place on the internet to learn about straight razor shaving, but probably close to the worst when it comes to discouraging obsessions
Take some time to look around and please check out the beginner section in our wiki to get some grounding. Straight Razor Place Wiki:Books/Beginners Guide - Straight Razor Place Wiki
Enjoy your stay!!

Welcome!
You're in the right place to get into straight razor shaving, thats for sure! And dont fight those AD's, embrace them. They are your friends!
There are a fair few cigar smokers here as well, myself included from time to time, and if you look in the Finer Things in Life forum you'll see there are a fair few threads on the topic.
As CarrieM says, have a good read of the Wiki and also the forums here. The research you do will really help you on your way!
Good luck and keep us posted!

Great to see you made it in, Rob! Hope to talk to you soon, like I said if you need help shoot me a PM.
you're in good hands here!
Nick
Edit: The Wiki is awesome, it has answers to pretty much any question. Also for your first straight, if you decide to get one, check out the classifieds. All the sellers there are known for being honest good people and they're razors well come shave ready if they say so.Last edited by Disburden; 07-06-2010 at 03:16 PM.

Welcome
Welcome Rob! You've come to the right place. CarrieM's statement about SRP being "close to the worst when it comes to discouraging obsessions" unfortunately (or is that "fortunately") is dead-on. You'll never meet a friendlier group of enablers.
